Jenny Owens Update – End of the Season |

So the season has finally come to an end! We just had the Jeep King of the Mountain here in Sun Valley which was a great event and a great course although it was pretty fast and dangerous the first day so training was cancelled. 3 people were down and out after only 30 minutes! They widened the course up and over night it also snowed so that slowed the course down which was good! There were 23 girls at the event but only 9 girls ended up starting because a few got injured, a few thought the course was too hard for them etc
I made a few mistakes in qualifying but had an ok time and placed 3rd. I won my semi final which was good confidence building for the finals. Magda Iljans from Sweden, Anik Demers and Julia Murray from Canada were in the finals. I was out in 3rd and knew where it was that I would try to pass if I was behind. I was right on the tails of Magda and Julia so cut tight on the second last turn before a long flat to the finish where I would have caught them from the speed I was carrying. I was just overtaking Madga and Julia was less than a ski length away. Magda got caught up on Julias skis and she went down crashing right into me and taking me down too.
I was knocked out because I landed head first into the snow. When I came to, I had no idea where I was or anything which was very confusing for me! They took me to the hospital for a scan and everything seems fine. I just have to be careful over the next few weeks. Im still forgetting where I am, a little confused at times and my memory isnt the best right now so hoping that things improve very soon!
I did however separate my shoulder in the fall so I will have to work on getting that back to normal. No surgery is required, just physio. It should only take 4 weeks to get it back to full movement and strength so it’s definitely not a serious injury!
All in all, I can definitely say that I had a great season. A lot of ups and downs but hopefully I can work on things over summer to get more consistent.
Thanks to everyone that has supported me and kept up their interest on my movements. I fly home tomorrow (arriving on Wednesday) so hopefully I’ll get to catch up with everyone very soon.
