This edition of the E-news marks the start of the 2007 Southern
Winter training season, and already athletes across all disciplines
at all major resorts are taking to the snow in preparation for the
competition season ahead.
Importantly, recent changes to the membership structure of the sport
came into effect on June 7th, 2007. While this has significant
ramifications for the overall governance structure of the sport, on
a practical level this will mainly effect those athletes and members
that have previously joined via a State Association. Please read the
membership information contained in this e-news carefully to see how
the changes affect you.
In this edition you will also find the latest event calendars and
discipline information.
Throughout the season the Ski & Snowboard Australia website www.skiandsnowboard.org.au
will provide you with all the latest event and program information,
entry forms, event news and results.

Membership
Membership, Discipline and FIS Registration
SSA membership and discipline registrations are now
available for the 2007 season.
Recent changes to the membership structure of the sport now require
all athletes and members to join SSA directly.
The only way to become a member of SSA and discipline registered for
those individuals previously registered via a State Association (NSW SA
and SACT) is via the SSA website.
If you are planning to compete on the National points list this
season you will require SSA membership and discipline registration.
You can purchase these memberships and registrations as well as FIS
registration (check requirements and eligibility), via the SSA
website.
If you have joined a Victorian Race Club your membership details
should have been forwarded from the respective club/association to
Ski & Snowboard Australia. SSA will notify you when your membership
has been activated and provide you with your log on details to
purchase further registrations.
If you have any further queries please contact the SSA office.

New Constitution
SSA’s new constitution was unanimously endorsed by members attending
the SGM in Sydney on Monday 4th June. This heralds in a
new era of cooperation and unity at all levels of the sport.
This outcome would not have been possible without the goodwill and
support of the Australian Sports commission, the SSA board and the
state and territory associations.
Information regarding membership under the new structure will be
sent to all members and Stakeholders in the coming days.

SSA Atheletes Commission
One of the exciting outcomes of the constitutional review process
and the adoption of the new constitution is the establishment of the
SSA athlete’s commission.
The athlete’s commission, under the rules of the new constitution,
will have a representative on the new SSA board, and we encourage
all eligible athletes past and present to consider making a
contribution to their sport by way of nominating for the athletes
commission.
The complete bylaw pertaining to the athletes commission can be
found here
In summary a person is eligible to nominate for the athletes
commission
-
is an active athlete in that he or she competes or has competed
in the sport of skiing or snowboarding at a FIS Continental Cup level or
higher within the previous eight years of being elected or appointed
to the SSA Athletes Commission;
-
is over the age of 18; and
-
has not been sanctioned for a doping offence during his or her
sports career.
Details including the nomination and election process together with
a detailed timeline will be included in future editions of the
e-news.
