Wall and women’s bob tackle Torino on Day 10

Australia will have two major interests in action on 20 February (Day 10), with Bradley Wall contesting the giant slalom in alpine skiing and the women’s two-man bobsleigh starting its campaign.
Wall will be looking to better his 33rd placing at Salt Lake City 2002 when he takes to the slopes at Sestriere Colle. The 26-year-old wants to break into the top 30 in the first of his two runs to ensure better conditions.

Aerials qualifying snowed out
20 Feb 2006

Australia’s aerialists will have to wait another two days before they launch their Olympic campaigns, after heavy snow falls and blizzard-type conditions forced the postponement of the qualifying round at Sauze d’Oulx.

Qualifying will now be held on 21 February (Day 11) with the top-12 competitors from a field of 24 advancing to the final the following day on Day 12.

Season best for Thomas

Australia’s Emily Thomas has narrowly missed recording a career best performance in the women’s snowboard cross at Bardonecchia.

Thomas finished 21st, her highest placing in the event this season and just short of her 20th placing at the 2003 World Championship.

AJ Bear crashes out in Super G
18 Feb 2006

In difficult conditions at Sestriere Borgata, alpine skier AJ Bear put down a good run in the Super G only to have it cancelled by officials due to bad weather. The event was postponed and in the re-run, he clipped a gate and crashed out, ending his Torino 2006 campaign.
