Ski & Snowboard
Australia athletes continue to achieve sensational results at all
levels of competition, as the Northern Winter begins to wind down.
Since the last E-News, Australian athletes have added 12 World Cup
medals, 10 Europa and NorAm Cup medals, a number of podium finishes
in FIS races and a host of personal best results to add to
Australia’s already impressive season.
The following is a brief summary of some of the major discipline
related activities this month. For more detail follow the links to
the designated discipline section on the SAL website.

FREESTYLE
The OWI
Aerial team continues its record breaking season with athletes
Alisa Camplin, and Lydia Ierodiaconou currently ranked 1 and 2 in
the World. Alisa has won five World Cup events, with Lydia on the
podium four times this season including a victory at the last event
in China. Liz Gardner has had her most impressive season so far
with her first podium finish and 3 finishes overall in the top
four.
Mogul athletes have also achieved some great results with several
top 10 places at the world cup level, and several Euopa Cup podium
results from the development team.

ALPINE
The second
half of the Alpine season has seen Craig Branch finish 7th in a
Europa Cup event in Italy and Jono Brauer achieve two top 10
finishes in FIS races, both in Austria.
Unfortunately the National Alpine team has been hit hard with
injuries this winter. AJ Bear and Luke Dean are both injured while
Jenny Owens announced her retirement from World Cup competition in
January.

CROSS COUNTRY
There have been a number
of personal best results for Australian cross country athletes
competing in events in Europe. Paul Murray finished 38th in a World
Cup Sprint event in Sweden, this result is Paul’s personal best
World Cup result and is only one position away from Australia’s best
World Cup finish of 37th.
Ben Sim made his World Cup debut in the Czech Republic and also
achieved Australia’s second best result at a World Junior
Championships by finishing 34th in the 10km Freestyle event.

SNOWBOARD
Australian Halfpipe Snowboarder Torah Bright won her second World
Cup medal from just three World Cup starts this winter, by finishing
3rd in the Japanese World Cup Event last weekend.
Johanna Shaw had two top 20 finishes in World Cup Boardercross races
in Sweden and Germany, the Swedish event being her personal best
World Cup result of 19th. SAL Development athlete Michael Williams
collected bronze in a Europa Cup Halfpipe event in Italy and then
followed it up with a second in a FIS event

Snowboard Australia ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Ski & Snowboard Australia has the pleasure of informing its members
of the upcoming 10th Annual General Meeting of Ski & Snowboard
Australia. The meeting will be held on the 24th of March, 2004 at
The Royce Hotel, 379 St.Kilda Road, Melbourne. The meeting will
commence at 6.30pm.
All documents and information relevant to the meetings, such as
formal agendas, annual reports, and proxy forms will be sent to you

INSURANCE
Ski & Snowboard Australia is delighted to announce a new and
improved insurance policy for ski clubs and associations throughout
Australia.
After much discussion and considerable negotiation on behalf of Ski
& Snowboard Australia, we have accepted renewal terms offered by

SNOWBOARD AWARDS
The 2004 Ski and Snowboard Awards have been tentatively scheduled
for the weekend of the 21/22 of May, 2004. Mark these dates down in
