SKI LENGTH RULE

Thusday, 31 July 2008

Following recent meetings and broader discussion within the FIS and the CoC Committees, a change to the precisions has just been posted on the FIS website in time for the Southern Hemisphere season 2008 providing advice of the following summarized outcome:

The equipment rule to extend the tolerance for ski length for a further season (-5cm tolerance) has been agreed for the ANC and SAC competitions to be held in the Southern Hemisphere during the period August-September 2008.

The reason of this decision is pretty clear; there are still a lot of old skis in circulation, but the economical issue is not the only one that needs to be considered. In reviewing performance under the revised precision last season in the Northern Hemisphere races at the highest level the new equipment has not significantly increased the safety of the competitors in the way that was expected. It has also been observed that the new equipment is faster so there is little advantage in remaining on the older equipment.

Please ensure that you review the FIS website regularly to keep updated on this and other changes.
